Chris Ward

My name is Chris Ward and I live in Hertfordshire. I have always been fascinated by motorcars and thanks to Tony, I have got interested in TVRs. Since passing my test I have owned several interesting cars and finally in May 2001 after much indecision I bought a TVR Chimaera 450. It is a 1998 S in stunning Paradise Purple, in my ownership over the summer I have gained a lot of confidence in driving the Beast hard, and I have spent many days cleaning and valeting the Tiv to a very high level. The one area I haven’t explored yet is the mechanicals. Up until now I have been happy to leave those to the specialists but, after wanting a challenge, in August 2001 Tony and myself took on this major project. Tony has some previous experience of car restoration so my aim is to use the 3000M as the basis for Tony to teach me all he knows, and whatever else we both may learn on the way, using the skills to work on my Chim too. So by summer 2002 we aim to have the 3000M completed (at least in a pre-modified-for-racing form) and will form a convoy of two of the best TVRs in our own eyes at least.

Tony Hall

I work in the Internet Industry as eCommerce Analyst for a large multinational group. I also design small sites for friends and colleagues and am the designer and owner of TVRMania.

I've been interested in sports cars, and TVR's in particular, for over 15 years. My first experience of TVR's was a 3000M belonging to an old neighbour in Wales where I grew up. Leon carried out a full restoration of his car over a number of years, and to see that car and others like it really started the bug. Leon is the regional organiser for the West Wales region of the TVR Car Club and as such many TVR's and other marques were always on view. Going to university in Hertfordshire really stopped much involvement in cars; too much to afford and far too much to run (and beer was so cheap!), but since I left university nearly five years ago, the enthusiasm has been rekindled. Knowing Chris now for about 6 years and his keenness to get involved not just in the driving side of sports cars, but in the restoration of them, has given me the ideal opportunity to move on to the ownership ladder. Even though this is the first TVR I've owned, I try to make it to as many events as possible, from TVRCC Mania events through to the Motorsport events around the country. I plan to drive the car when complete, possibly even look at sprinting, but in the meantime I will have to make do with the occasional blast in the Chim!
